The first six weeks of the Coronavirus lockdown will for me probably be best remembered for the huge generosity shown by my mum who let me and my kids gatecrash her house indefinitely from the start. I’ve been working from home and with the uncertainty around employment and general cabin fever it’s made for a challenge to live together for the first time in 16 years. But mum has put up with every mood swing, every tantrum, every lego brick left lying around in the floor. We’ll be leaving soon but my mum opened her home to us and we’ll always be grateful.

The Corona lockdown has resulted in us spending more time together as a family with no pressure of work, school, swimming lessons etc. We are exploring the local area much more and finding places we haven't been before and are lucky to have Radford on our doorstep. We have been lucky with the glorious weather but Olivia 11 and Tilly 8 are missing their friends and freedom to go to the park and meet friends and accepting the strange rules of social distancing. I am still working but from home, which I struggle with as I am a community occupational therapist and miss seeing my clients face to face. We miss our friends and family who we are seeing on various video call apps, however my IT skills have improved massively!!!
Thornyville close had a street party for VE day which brought us all together in these difficult times ❤️

So near and yet so far away, missing the hugs - the Burns family - living on two streets in Oreston - able to see each other but only from a distance.

Initially when lock down happened as a single mum I felt great worry and stress, wondering how I could keep my family safe health wise and financially.
I was one of the lucky ones to be furloughed from my job which eased the financial side of things.
Living in a village with my 3 girls I found the first few weeks although strange, we enjoyed family time every day sitting together each day doing gratitude then homework 📚 and home cooking. In the evening we had fun playing board games. As the weeks have gone by a routine has set in where we get up workout together walk the dog 🐶 then I have been doing lots of painting and DIY I had needed to do but never found time. Cleaning the house from top to bottom, FaceTime family regularly and really enjoying this time we’ve had together as a family.
Moving forward it will feel strange to eventually be able to go back to work and school. I will forever look back on this as a precious time for me and my girls before my eldest leaves for university. I feel blessed to live in a beautiful village where the local shop has kept us supplied and the local community has all rallied together. A time of reflection, love, family and safety.

Rob is the photographer behind this project. Clare is six months pregnant, we have been lucky to both be able to work at home during lockdown and it's been nice spending more time together. Like most people we are missing our family who live up country such as clares brother who owns a successful restaurant in Bristol facing real uncertainty about whether it can continue.

Making the most of the good weather, Archie and Lorraine like many of us have been missing their friends and family yet they focus on the positives of living in a beautiful part of the world and being lucky enough to have outdoor space to enjoy.

Having just moved to Oreston at the end of February, Paul and Judy love the village and how friendly and welcoming people have been. Their daughter is a Nurse here in Plymouth but due to lockdown they have not been able to see much of each other.

    Stu & Family

Stu and his family have enjoyed the extra time together as a family enjoying more mealtimes in each others company. Like many of us they have noticed how much more friendly people in the community have become with each other. Juggling home schooling whilst working remotely has proved challenging along with missing the company of friends and family - and of course being able to get out on the water.

Joanna and her family are part of the army of key workers keeping things going. Joanna, her partner and daughter have all been working for Royal Mail & Parcel Force locally throughout the lockdown. She has been working 6 day weeks since the lockdown began in March.

    Deb & Peter

Deb & Peter have found the lockdown challenging in the same ways as many of us. They have family in the village but can only really interact from a distance, which is particularly hard with their grand children. Peter has also experienced new ways of working as a result of the lockdown - his teaching at the university has now all moved online using video conferencing.

    Teresa

For Teresa, it’s been lovely not having to juggle lots of balls at the same time at home and work. There has been time to get everything done. Like many of us the lack of physical contact is hard - for Teresa particularly so as she was diagnosed with breast cancer had a mastectomy and started chemo during lockdown. Her positive attitude given all these challenges is truly inspiring.
